1.1
Scope
1.1.1
This Standard applies to manual lever operated, gas shut- off valves of metallic construction, with weld and flanged and threaded ends other than pressure lubricated designs.
1.1.2
This Standard applies to valves used in:
(a) appliances and equipment where gas is to be used for fuel purposes and,
(b) piping and tubing systems falling within the pressure limitations covered in this Standard.
1.1.3
This Standard sets forth the minimum capabilities which a valve must possess in order to be considered suitable for use with natural gas, manufactured gas and liquefied petroleum gases (distributed as vapour with or without the admixture of air), or mixtures thereof.
Note: Valves covered by this Standard may be used on “”digester gas”” (methane produced during sewage treatment) but because of entrained contaminants their use shall be subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
Valves covered by this Standard may not be used on “”sour gas”” (gas with entrained hydrogen sulphide) without modification i.e. additional requirements. Manufacturers should be consulted for their recommendation and agreement reached between the manufacturer and purchaser.
1.1.4
Requirements for valves NPS 1/4 to 8 are specified.
1.1.5
This Standard covers valves that are suitable for use in the services specified in 1.1.6 over a pressure range of zero to 860 kPa (125 psig) and in addition shall withstand field pressure testing to a maximum permissible pressure of 1290 kPa (187 psig).
Note: The obturator must not be moved while the valve is at a pressure exceeding the rated maximum operating pressure.
1.1.6
All valves covered by this Standard will be limited as to the service temperature and/or special provisions in accordance with the following designations and descriptions in Parts 2 through 6.
Part 2
-30?C to +
65?C (-22?F to + 149?F) Part 3

1.1.7
This Standard contains SI (Metric) equivalents to the yard/pound quantities, the purpose being to allow the Standard to be used in SI (Metric) units. If a value for a measurement as given in this Standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated is to be regarded as the requirement. The given equivalent may be approximate. If a value for a mesurement and an equivalent value in other units are both specified as a quoted
marking requirement, the first stated unit, or both shall be provided.
