ANSI/NETA ETT-2010 provides a nationally-recognized procedure for qualifying electrical testing technicians and the agencies that certify them. This Standard defines competency on the basis of experience, education, and a certifying examination.

NETA developed a certification program for electrical testing technicians in 1975. “The approval of ANSI/NETA Standard for Certification of Electrical Testing Technicians as an American National Standard validates this program and others meeting the criteria,” says NETA Technical Chair Alan Peterson.

This standard is significant because there are no state or national licensing requirements for electrical testing personnel. Because subjective judgments are necessary, specifying competency requirements for the evaluator of electrical power equipment is as important as specifying the test procedure itself. The Standard for Certification of Electrical Testing Technicians provides these competency requirements.

Those responsible for placing electrical power equipment into service or for assuring its continued reliability can now specify the use of certified electrical testing technicians, referencing the ETT Standard in its entirety. As an American National Standard, it has undergone due process, consensus, and other stringent review requirements.
